The Land of Lakes and Volcanoes

Nicaragua is one of those places that is overlooked because it has a flashier and more famous neighbor. Being situated next to Costa Rica, many tourists pass by this small country and head down to its neighbor.

However, this is not to say that the country’s tourist value is being next to Costa Rica. On the contrary, Nicaragua is a country of contrasts delightfully nicknamed the land of lakes and volcanoes.

It is the home of many stunning cities, and one of the best ones is the town of León. It is the country’s second-largest city. It is filled with diversity thanks to the charming people of León that may convince you to make the city your permanent home.

It is an artsy and sophisticated place home to locals and university students offering an allure of youthful energy that will leave you feeling rejuvenated and happy. The contagious spirit of the locals is just the beginning of what you will experience in this city.

Even though it is not the party central of Nicaragua, León still boasts several great bars to take the edge off after a day of exploration. Via Vis is where you can start your night off with good food and even better wine. Here, they play live music so you can get a little taste of local sounds.

El Mirador is an elegant eatery full of good food at an affordable price. It is filled with university students who love a good time, so get your dancing shoes on for some youthful energy. These and more bars host a lot of fun games, and it is a great place to meet backpackers and friendly people.

Volcano Boarding

One of the most iconic things to do in León is volcano boarding. It is a thrilling activity available at the Cerro Negro volcano. Through an affordable tour experience, you will approach the park in the morning and begin to ascend for about one hour.

It is a little tedious because you will have to carry your own board, but it is worth it once you get to the top. At the top, you will change into safety gear, and other clothes then get ready to head down the volcano.

You will board down the volcano leaving a cloud of ash as the wind blows on your face giving you a substantial adrenaline rush. This activity is a must-do as it is only available here and in Chile.
